WOMEN LEADERSHIP SUMMIT

To celebrate International Women’s Day, the Tanzania Gender Networking Programme (TGNP) organized a Women Leadership Summit at Milimani City, Dar es Salaam.

The summit aimed at identifying and celebrating the contributions of some of the women leaders and those who been leaders in various spheres at national levels. TGNP believes in women's contributions even those which society has entrusted women as their work such as unpaid care work; which in one way or another has enabled other groups in society to participate in various activities including leadership.

The conference brought together women leaders such as the retired first woman speaker mama Anna Makinda as well as Members of Parliament such as Mary Nagu of the ruling CCM party and Esther Bulaya of the Opposition CHADEMA party to name some. There were some wives of leaders including those of retired leaders, as part of recognizing and respecting the contributions of these women in various fields of development. There were also women representing sister organizations from different parts of Tanzania and women who were ready to become mentors, ready to share their experience of leadership issues with women, forum members and young women, an activity that will be coordinated by the TGNP Network.
